Volunteering at The Hunger Project – an intern’s point of view

Dec 15, 2015 | Blog, Latest News

Kelsey has been an intern at The Hunger Project UK for three and a half months, assisting the team during one of our busiest and event-filled times of the year.

As she comes to the end of her internship, we asked Kelsey about her experience:

How did you find out about The Hunger Project UK?

I found out about the organisation through the Anglo Internships programme. I’m in my final year of studying International Studies and Relations and have previously been a part of development work. I wanted to get an idea of what happens behind the scenes, how an NGO works, and requested that my internship be in the non-profit sector, and Anglo suggested The Hunger Project right away!

What projects have you been working on during your internship?

My internship has taken place during a really busy time at The Hunger Project UK. There have been many exciting events and I was given lots of responsibility from the start. On the Mud Challenge I worked closely with our challengers, providing support and helping them build their fundraising pages. I helped to design communications materials and was in charge of making a video of the event taken from my GoPro attached to a challenger’s head!

After the Mud Challenge I started to help the team with our Harambee gala dinner, where I learnt about Mailchimp and communications, helped to secure some exciting auction lots, and liaised with our gala partners.

What were your favourite experiences at The Hunger Project UK?

I really enjoyed interacting with Hunger Project supporters, building connections with these like-minded people. I loved all the events that I was part of, the lead-up can be a really busy time and I was so proud to see all the hard work of everyone in the team coming to life. This has been a chance for me to understand what goes on as part of charity, and I’ve learnt so much about fundraising, partnerships, and events, and who knows, I may go onto organising my own events in the future!

Thank you to Kelsey, and all our volunteers for their hard work and support of The Hunger Project team in the UK.
