We are one global family – A message from the UK Country Director
Dear supporters and friends,
I hope you, your loved ones and communities are safe and well.
I am, like you, concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my immediate family, friends and the whole Hunger Project community. At the same time, I am also focused on the impact that COVID-19 is having on vulnerable people who don’t have the same access as we do to healthcare, sanitation and reliable information.
Providing continued support to our partners
Our priority at The Hunger Project is to ensure that we can continue to support our partners in Africa, South Asia and Latin America in their journey towards ending hunger and poverty, and working together to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in their villages.
Adapting and responding
Across The Hunger Project family, we have put strict measures in place to protect the health and safety of our community partners, and our staff and volunteers around the world. We have cancelled all travel, including in our programme countries. We do not want to be carriers of the virus to the communities. Local offices are unleashing their leadership and creativity to continue to support those who have already been trained. We will share news and updates with you from all our programmes as often as we can.

Impact on our work in the UK
In the UK, we are working from home, reviewing our plan of activities for the year and have cancelled events such as our sustainable clothes swap in Chiswick Business Park that was due to take place this week. We are thinking deeply about words from Ruchi Yadav, Director of Programs of The Hunger Project India, which echo in all of the countries where we work:
“In light of the work from home scenario, our thoughts are with those who are daily wage labourers/earners, and the largely informal economy where most of our people in India are employed and for whom staying at home sometimes is not an option, or a forced choice which pushes them towards the wall!”
We have compiled a short list of a few ways you could help us continue our work empowering people in vulnerable communities in these difficult times. Every pound raised, every initiative will make a huge difference:
💙If you are placing orders on Amazon, please consider using AmazonSmile instead of Amazon.co.uk. When you shop and select The Hunger Project UK, Amazon will make a donation to our work, at no cost to you

💙If your birthday is coming up in the next few weeks or you were planning to organise a party or celebration, firstly, I am sorry that it may not be the celebration that you’d hoped for! But please do consider creating a celebration fundraiser on Facebook in support of The Hunger Project UK and invite your friends and family to make a donation.
💙We will endeavour to share inspiring stories of our partners and how together we can continue to make a difference in this difficult time. Please do follow our social media accounts and share our posts.
I am so deeply inspired by our global community of supporters and partners, and by the incredible work that is happening through all of you around the world as we together face this unprecedented challenge.
